Lymphoedema

We offer treatments and advice to ease discomfort and improve quality of life, allowing individuals to maintain their independence despite lymphoedema, a chronic swelling condition that typically affects a limb but can impact any part of the body.

Our holistic approach to well-being encompasses a wide range of services aimed at addressing physical, emotional, and mental health concerns. Here's how she can assist with each of the areas you've mentioned:

Fluid Retention: She can offer dietary adjustments, herbal remedies, lymphatic drainage techniques, and lifestyle recommendations to reduce fluid retention and alleviate symptoms like puffy eyes, swollen face, feet, and ankles.

Lymphoedema can occur due to abnormalities in the lymphatic system (Primary Lymphoedema) or damage to it (Secondary Lymphoedema), resulting in the accumulation of lymph fluid in and below the skin layers, leading to swelling. This damage can be caused by various factors such as trauma, surgery, or treatments like radiotherapy. Additionally, lymphoedema can be exacerbated by pre-existing conditions like chronic venous disease and obesity.

Post-Cosmetic Surgery Swellings: Tatjana can offer techniques such as lymphatic drainage massage, elevation of affected areas, and dietary recommendations to reduce swelling and promote healing after cosmetic procedures.

Post-Traumatic Swellings: We can provide similar techniques to manage swelling resulting from accidents or injuries, along with additional strategies tailored to specific injuries like sprained ankles or black eyes.

Headaches and Migraines: Tatjana can provide relaxation techniques, stress management strategies, dietary advice, hydration recommendations, and possibly suggest supplements or herbal remedies to help manage headaches, migraines, and recurrent colds and flus.

Although there is no cure for lymphoedema, Tatjana emphasizes that a diagnosis doesn't mean putting life on hold. Through proper treatment and management, individuals can continue engaging in activities they love. Our approach likely includes therapies to reduce swelling, such as manual lymphatic drainage, compression therapy, exercise, and skincare, along with providing support and guidance to help individuals cope with the challenges of living with lymphoedema.

Skin Conditions: We can offer personalized skincare routines, dietary advice, stress management techniques, and possibly recommend topical treatments or supplements to address skin conditions.

Musculoskeletal Pain: We may recommend a combination of techniques such as massage therapy, gentle exercises, heat/cold therapy, dietary changes, and possibly suggest supplements or herbal remedies to alleviate pain, swollen joints, and osteoarthritis symptoms.

By addressing these various aspects of well-being, Tatjana aims to support her clients in achieving holistic health and vitality.

Intensive lymphoedema treatment

Some people with more severe lymphoedema may have a period of intensive treatment. You might have treatment daily, 2 to 3 times a week for several weeks. This involves skin care, exercise, compression therapy, and manual lymphatic drainage. This treatment is tailored to your individual needs.

It’s sometimes called complex or complete decongestive therapy (CDT). You might also hear is called decongestive lymphatic therapy (DLT). Not everyone who has lymphoedema needs to have intensive treatment.

Follow-up treatments

MLD treatment is typically carried out on a regular basis after the intensive phase, with the frequency determined based on the individual's response to treatment and the ongoing management needs of their lymphedema.

For some individuals, weekly MLD sessions may be necessary to maintain the improvements achieved during the intensive phase and to manage ongoing swelling and fluid retention. Others may require less frequent sessions, such as every two weeks or monthly, especially if their condition is well-controlled and they are able to maintain their progress with other aspects of their treatment plan, such as compression therapy, exercise, and proper skincare.

The frequency of follow-up MLD sessions may also be adjusted over time based on changes in the individual's condition, response to treatment, and any new developments or challenges they may encounter. It's important for individuals receiving MLD therapy to continue working closely with their healthcare provider or lymphedema therapist to monitor their progress and make any necessary adjustments to their treatment plan.
